Inaugural Biennial Conference on Rural Tourism in the Atlantic
/ Azores
The Inaugural
Conference on Rural Tourism in the Atlantic / Azores is to be held
in the town of São Jorge in the Azores on 19-21 April. The
event, sponsored by the regional economy secretary in conjunction
with the regional secretary for the environment, will bring together
specialists from Ireland, France, the Canaries, Madeira, the Azores
and the Portuguese mainland in a series of debates on issues ranging
from rural tourism in the Atlantic and nature tourism to architectural
heritage and its use in tourism, training for nature guides and
facilitators, quality systems and continuous training, markets and
promotion, and incentives schemes.
The inaugural conference will also host a trade fair in which local
tour operators, traditional arts and crafts and environmental associations
will be represented.
Easily the largest event of its kind ever held on Portuguese
territory, the conference takes place in a setting which is ideally
suited to rural tourism - the remarkably unspoilt Azores archipelago.
Whether you're a tourism professional or a nature lover, the Inaugural
Conference on Rural Tourism in the Atlantic / Azores wants your
views. And visitors to the conference can also enjoy an excursion
to Fajã da Caldeira do Santo Cristo to experience at first
hand the extraordinary natural beauty of the Azores and the enduring
fascination of its culture and traditional crafts.
